The Challenge
Wendy has congenital absence of both legs above the knee and left arm above the elbow. She also has Osteoarthritis in all joints. She can stand on her stumps and walk short distances indoors, she uses a power wheelchair for her general mobility.
The Solutions
-
Increased pressure to power steering, to make it lighter and easier to use.
-
12 way infrared secondary control system, to allow her to keep control of the steering and be able to operate the secondary controls with one hand, ie indicators and lights etc.
-
Docking system to lock her power wheelchair in position and aid transfer to 6 way electric drivers seat.
-
Bespoke floor mounted mechanical push/pull hand control for operation of Brake and Accelerator function.
Wendy is able to rest her stump from her left arm onto a specially designed push/pull control. This leaves her good arm to control steering and secondary controls. The specially designed Push/pull has given Wendy the confidence to drive safely and she now has full independence. She is a busy mum with two children and she can now do almost anything she wants due to her improved mobility made possible by Elap.
