Disabled Picnic Bench
A superb example of how design, function and durability can be brought together to produce something completely practical yet genuinely beautiful. The cutaway for the wheelchair allows easy access to and from the table.
Sustainable Furniture Douglas Fir picnic benches are crafted from British-grown timber and processed in Cornwall in the most environmentally friendly methods available.
All logs are from Devon and Cornwall FSC certified woodlands and cut at a local Truro sawmill. The finished picnic bench is treated with wood preservative under controlled conditions by vacuum pressure technology using the latest environmentally safe “Tanalith E” from Arch Timber Protection. Tanalith E treated timber can be used with confidence for all applications in Hazard class 1-4, internal and external, above and below ground use.

These benches are designed for areas of high public use and need to be sunk into concrete or below the ground surface to half way up the horizontal connecting beams. This provides a stable platform, which for Health and Safety reasons is essential for disabled use. We recommend that the picnic table is installed into a wheel chair friendly surface with a clear path to the table where possible. This is a Forestry Commission design suitable for easy access for all.
